I made my first trip to Night Shift last year and this was the beer I brought back home in a growler. Whirlpool is a super sessionable Pale Ale coming in at a miniscule 4.30%. A few months ago Night Shift opened their canning line making this is available in 4-packs in 12oz, but luckily, 16oz pint cans will be released very soon.
Pours a hazy, pale, straw yellow with a finger of bright white head.
Massive zesty citrus on the nose with some earthy hops.
The taste retains the huge citrus presence from the aroma with lemon peel, some peach, and grapefruit. There are also some sweeter flavors in their too that remind me of orange sherbert or like sprinkling sugar on grapefruit. A pleasant tartness on the back end, but no huge hop component, but at such a low abv, it is easily forgivable.
Mouthfeel is light and refreshing without being thin. The burst of citrus, light feel, and 4.30% abv make this an easy ride. Nothing lingers for too long and flavors have a tendency to leave your palate a little too quickly.
Whirlpool is a fresh, citrusy Pale Ale with tons of flavor packed into a small package. It drinks bigger than its abv would suggest and with Spring having finally arrived, this is an ideal beer for warmer weather and time outside.
